Ski touring combines the adventure of mountaineering with the thrill of off-piste downhill skiing.

The mountain is ascended by means of pivoting bindings and "skins" that are attached to the undersides of the skis and allow one to walk up the mountain without sliding back down. On the summit, after locking the bindings and peeling off the skins, the mountain can be skied down much the same as with ordinary downhill skis.

To start with ski touring you should be able to downhill ski at least well enough to get down red pistes.

For the benefit of those who would sign up on this site by mistake, (it happens!), ski touring is NOT cross-country skiing nor is it ordinary downhill skiing.
